Best Money Market Funds in Pakistan 2026: Ranked on Real Returns

Pakistan's money market funds pay around 11% in 2026 — but the tax code quietly eats the headline. We ranked 7 funds on published MUFAP returns, then ran the after-tax, after-fee math nobody shows you.

Searching for the best money market funds in Pakistan 2026 usually ends the same way: a list of fund names with big percentages next to them, no mention of who published the numbers, and total silence about the two things that actually decide your return — the taxman's cut and the entry fee. The 11% on the brochure is not the 11% in your pocket.

So here is a different kind of ranking. The returns below come from MUFAP's published daily performance data (October 2026) — the industry's own numbers, not a sales deck. And then we do the part no ranking does: subtract the load, subtract the withholding tax, and show you what a Rs 500,000 investment actually keeps. Spoiler: the fund with the biggest headline number is not always the fund that pays you the most.

What a money market fund actually is (and the Rs 4.5 trillion behind it)

A money market fund takes your cash, pools it with thousands of other investors, and parks it in the safest short-term paper in the country: treasury bills, bank deposits, and money-market placements, all maturing within months. The fund's manager earns the interest; you earn your share of it, priced daily as the fund's NAV. You can enter with as little as Rs 1,000 and exit in 1–3 working days.

This is not a niche product. Pakistan's mutual fund industry manages roughly **Rs 4.5 trillion** (MUFAP, January 2026), and the money-market category alone holds about **Rs 1.9 trillion** — the single biggest slice of the industry, bigger than equity and income funds combined. When nearly two trillion rupees of Pakistani savings sit in one category, the differences between funds deserve real scrutiny, not brochure adjectives.

One more thing the brochures blur: a money market fund is not a savings account with a better rate. Your bank deposit is protected up to Rs 500,000 per depositor per bank by the Deposit Protection Corporation. A mutual fund has no such guarantee — the NAV can dip, slightly, on a bad day. In practice, Pakistani money market funds have an excellent capital-preservation record, and PACRA/VIS stability ratings (AAA(f), AA+(f), AA(f)) exist precisely to measure that steadiness. But "low risk" and "no risk" are different sentences, and you should never see the second one in a fund ad.

If you are new to how fund types differ, our [beginner's guide to mutual funds in Pakistan](https://frinjo.me/blog/best-mutual-funds-in-pakistan-for-beginners-2026) covers the five categories in plain English — this article assumes you have already decided the money-market corner is yours.

The 7 best money market funds in Pakistan 2026, ranked on real returns

The table below uses trailing one-year returns from published MUFAP data (October 2026), alongside each fund's stability rating. Two honest notes before the numbers: first, the gap between first and seventh place is **half a percentage point** — on Rs 500,000, that is Rs 2,500 a year. The ranking is real, but it is nearly noise. Second, two funds on this list show no published stability rating, which is itself information — read the notes.

| Rank | Fund | 1-year return | Stability rating |

|---|---|---|---|

| 1 | NBP Money Market Liquid Fund | 11.59% | Not listed |

| 2 | Alhamra Islamic Cash Fund | 11.42% | Not listed |

| 3 | AWT Islamic Money Market Fund | 11.33% | AA+(f) |

| 4 | Pak Qatar Daily Dividend Plan | 11.30% | AA(f) |

| 5 | MCB Money Market Fund | 11.26% | AA+(f) |

| 6 | Alfalah Money Market Fund - II | 11.24% | AA(f) |

| 7 | NIT Money Market Fund | 11.09% | AAA(f) |

**1. NBP Money Market Liquid Fund — the raw-return leader, with an asterisk.** At 11.59%, it tops the published table. The asterisk: no PACRA/VIS stability rating appears alongside it in the published data. That does not mean it is unsafe — NBP Funds is the industry's second-largest AMC — but when every rival on this list carries an audited rating and this one doesn't, ask the AMC why before you commit six figures.

**2. Alhamra Islamic Cash Fund — the Islamic leader, also unrated.** 11.42% makes it the highest-returning Shariah-compliant option in the data, a meaningful result for savers who avoid riba. Same caveat as above: no published stability rating yet, typical of newer funds. If the riba-free requirement is non-negotiable for you, this is the number to beat — but pair it against a rated Islamic peer before deciding.

**3. AWT Islamic Money Market Fund — the rated Islamic pick.** 11.33% with an AA+(f) rating: a very strong capacity to maintain stable returns, per the rating definition. For the Shariah-conscious saver who wants both a top-quartile return and an audited stability badge, this is arguably the most complete package on the list.

**4. Pak Qatar Daily Dividend Plan — the cash-flow mechanic.** 11.30%, AA(f) rated, and structured to pay out daily — useful if you want the income drip rather than NAV accumulation. On a like-for-like return it trails the top three by a hair, but for someone replacing monthly income, the payout mechanic can matter more than 0.1%.

**5. MCB Money Market Fund — the quiet blue-chip.** 11.26% with AA+(f). No gimmicks, no asterisks: a big-bank AMC, a top-tier rating, a top-half return. This is the fund for the investor who finds "boring and rated" reassuring rather than dull.

**6. Alfalah Money Market Fund - II — the steady middle.** 11.24%, AA(f). Within a rounding error of fifth place. If your salary already lands in a Bank Alfalah account, the convenience of staying inside one app is worth more than the 0.02% you would gain by switching.

**7. NIT Money Market Fund — the rating champion.** 11.09% is the lowest return on this list — and it carries the only **AAA(f)** rating here, the highest stability grade PACRA awards. Half a point of return buys you the industry's strongest audited steadiness signal. For genuinely can't-lose-sleep money, that trade is rational, not timid. (NIT's Islamic sibling, NIT-IMMF, waives its front-end load entirely and publishes FY24/FY23 returns of 21.43% and 16.95% — those were the high-rate years, but they show what the house can do.)

Honorable mentions just outside the seven: Lucky Islamic Cash Fund (11.20%, AA(f)), Atlas Islamic Money Market Fund (11.11%, AA(f)), and AKD Cash Fund (11.01%, AA+(f)). Any of them is defensible; none of them changes the story.

And the story is this: **the entire top ten sits inside a 0.6-point band.** Fund selection, at these levels, is not where your return is won or lost. The next section is.

The number is lying: what you actually keep

Published fund returns are **gross of withholding tax** and **net of management fees** (the fee is already baked into the NAV — you never pay it separately). But two deductions still stand between the brochure and your pocket: the entry load and the taxman.

**The load.** Some funds charge a front-end load — a one-time entry fee, typically 0–2%. Real example from MUFAP's own tables: a money market fund quoting a NAV of Rs 10.53 against an offer price of Rs 10.63 — a ~1% gap. Put Rs 100,000 in and roughly **Rs 950 evaporates before a single rupee of profit is earned**. Many AMCs waive the load for online signups (NIT-IMMF waives it outright), which is one more reason to open the account yourself in the app rather than through an agent. Always check the offering document, never the sales call.

**The tax — this is the big one.** Income from a money market fund is debt income, and FBR's 2026–27 rate card taxes mutual-fund dividends at **25% on the debt portion for filers** — double the 15% withholding on a bank savings account's profit. Non-filers pay double again: 50% on the fund's payout versus 30% on bank profit. Capital gains at redemption face a separate 15% deduction for individuals (nothing deducted if you hold over six years) — check your redemption statement, because the AMC deducts it before the money reaches you.

Now the worked example. Rs 500,000 in the Alfalah Money Market Fund - II at its 11.24% one-year return:

  • •Gross profit: 500,000 × 11.24% = **Rs 56,200**
  • •Less 25% dividend withholding (filer): −Rs 14,050
  • •**Net in pocket: Rs 42,150 — an 8.43% real yield**

Compare that with the same Rs 500,000 in a 10% savings account (see our [2026 savings account rankings](https://frinjo.me/blog/best-savings-accounts-in-pakistan-2026)):

  • •Gross profit: 500,000 × 10% = **Rs 50,000**
  • •Less 15% withholding (filer): −Rs 7,500
  • •**Net in pocket: Rs 42,500 — an 8.50% real yield**

Read that twice. The fund's headline beats the savings account by 1.24 percentage points, and the savings account still puts **Rs 350 more** in your pocket — because the tax code charges the fund's income at 25% and the bank's at 15%. For non-filers the gap explodes: the fund nets Rs 28,100 after 50% withholding while the savings account nets Rs 35,000 after 30%. The single highest-return move in this entire article is not picking fund #1 over fund #7 — it is getting on the Active Taxpayers List.

And one final haircut, the one nobody's brochure survives: inflation ran **11.38% year-on-year in mid-October 2026**. An 8.4% net nominal return is a *negative* real return. Money market funds in 2026 are not wealth builders — they are wealth preservers that lose slightly less purchasing power than a current account. Anyone selling them as growth is selling something else.

Money market fund vs savings account vs T-bill: the honest three-way

For money you might need within a year, Pakistan really offers three parking slots. Here is how they compare after everything above:

**Money market fund:** ~11% gross, ~8.4% net for filers. Redemption in 1–3 working days, minimums from Rs 1,000, no deposit insurance, zakat on units at NAV (you calculate and pay it yourself — more below). Wins on: entry ticket size and app-based management. Loses on: the 25% tax rate and the redemption lag.

**High-rate savings account:** ~10% gross, ~8.5% net for filers. Instant liquidity, deposit protection to Rs 500,000, and the bank handles nothing for you on zakat either — but the deduction mechanics are familiar. Wins on: the 15% tax rate and instant access. Loses on: promotional rates that quietly reset downward, which our savings-account guide documents.

**Treasury bills (direct):** roughly the policy-rate level gross, similar tax treatment to bank profit, but you buy in auctions through a broker or bank with higher minimums and real paperwork. Wins on: sovereign backing and zero management layer. Loses on: accessibility — this is not a 15-minute app signup.

The practical answer for most people is a split, not a winner: emergency money in the savings account (instant access beats 0.1%), and the 3–12-month surplus in a rated money market fund. If your goal stretches past a year and you want income, the [monthly income investments we compared for 2026](https://frinjo.me/blog/best-monthly-income-investments-in-pakistan-2026) — Regular Income Certificates at 11.76%, Behbood at 12.72% for the eligible — deserve the next hour of your research.

Zakat, redemption timing, and the fine print

Three things investors discover too late:

**Zakat applies.** Your fund units are zakatable at their current NAV — 2.5%, same as cash. Unlike a savings account, where the bank auto-deducts on 1st Ramadan above the nisab, **no one deducts zakat from your mutual fund automatically**. With the 2026 nisab at Rs 503,529, a Rs 600,000 fund holding creates a Rs 15,000 obligation that arrives with no reminder. Our [2026 Zakat calculation guide](https://frinjo.me/blog/how-to-calculate-zakat-on-savings-in-pakistan-2026) works through fund units explicitly — run it once and calendar it.

**Redemption is not instant.** Settlement typically takes 1–3 working days (NBP's own fund documents specify 2–3 business days). A money market fund is therefore not your emergency fund — it is your *next-week* fund. Keep actual emergency cash in the savings account.

**Ratings can be withdrawn or changed.** A stability rating is a snapshot, not a tattoo. Glance at it once a year on the MUFAP portal; if your fund's rating slips a notch, that is your cue to ask questions, not to panic.

How to buy one in 15 minutes

SECP's digital onboarding framework means no branch visits:

1. **Pick a licensed AMC** from the seven above — verify the licence on MUFAP's member list, not on a WhatsApp forward.

2. **Download the AMC's official app** (or use its website). Keep ready: CNIC photos, proof of income, and your bank IBAN.

3. **Answer the risk-profile questionnaire honestly.** It exists to stop you buying an equity fund when you need a money market fund.

4. **Check the load before you pay.** If the app shows a front-end load, look for the online-waiver option — many AMCs zero it for digital signups.

5. **Transfer via 1Bill/KuickPay or Raast/IBFT.** Minimums are usually Rs 1,000–5,000. Keep the unit confirmation the AMC sends you — it is your tax record at redemption.

One red line: no legitimate AMC will ever cold-message you on WhatsApp or Telegram promising guaranteed monthly returns. That is the [investment-scam playbook we documented](https://frinjo.me/blog/investment-scams-in-pakistan-7-schemes-that-stole-billions) — real funds never guarantee profits.

5 mistakes that cost money-market investors real money

**1. Chasing the 1-month return.** The fund that topped last month's table is rarely the fund that tops this year's. Compare 1-year and 3-year consistency, not the latest spike — a single good month is marketing, a good three years is management.

**2. Ignoring the rating gap.** An 11.59% return with no published rating versus 11.09% with AAA(f): the half-point gap is Rs 2,500 a year on Rs 500,000. If that half point is buying you sleep, it is the cheapest insurance in this article.

**3. Staying a non-filer.** The math above is brutal: 50% withholding on fund payouts versus 25% for filers. On Rs 500,000 at 11.24%, non-filer status costs you **Rs 14,050 a year** — every year — for paperwork that costs nothing to fix.

**4. Treating it as an emergency fund.** The 2–3 day redemption lag means the money is not there the night the hospital bill arrives. Emergency cash lives in a savings account; the fund holds the money you need *next month*.

**5. Forgetting the zakat.** No auto-deduction, no reminder, fully zakatable at NAV. The investors who get this wrong are not trying to dodge anything — they simply never knew the obligation was theirs to calculate.

Verdict: which fund for which saver

  • •**Maximum published return, and you will verify the rating question yourself:** NBP Money Market Liquid Fund (11.59%).
  • •**Best Shariah-compliant return on the board:** Alhamra Islamic Cash Fund (11.42%) — or AWT Islamic Money Market Fund (11.33%, AA+(f)) if you want the return *with* an audited rating.
  • •**Steadiest hands in the industry:** NIT Money Market Fund — 11.09% with the only AAA(f) on this list.
  • •**Simplest choice inside a big-bank relationship:** MCB Money Market Fund (11.26%, AA+(f)) or Alfalah Money Market Fund - II (11.24%, AA(f)).
  • •**You want payouts, not NAV growth:** Pak Qatar Daily Dividend Plan (11.30%, AA(f)).

And the one-line rule that beats the whole ranking: **become a filer, waive the load by signing up online, and judge the fund on its after-tax return — because the 11% on the brochure was never yours to begin with.** Run the Rs 500,000 math above with your own capital before you commit, and re-check the current MUFAP table the week you invest — these numbers move with every policy-rate decision.
